Rollover Pass is located on the Bolivar Peninsula. It was created when engineers dug a channel through the peninsula to East Bay, from the Gulf of Mexico. This served as a shortcut for merchants to deliver their goods into Galveston Bay. When the pass was created, it turned in to a a natural fishway. Thousands of fish swim through the channel, traveling from the Gulf into Galveston Bay, and vice versa.

During the croaker run, which is in the early fall, fish may be caught by the thousands. People travel to Rollover Pass from the east (Lake Charles, Beaumont, etc.) and from the west (Sealy, Houston, etc.). It is not uncommon to see people fishing in rows three to four deep. The only disadvantage in fishing at Rollover Pass is in dealing with the extremely strong currents. When one fishes there, it is almost a certainty that your line will snag the line of another fisherman.
